Featuring the extensive use of printed glass louvre blades, Kathleen Street is a unique renovation and addition of a 1930’s brick and tile bungalow in Cottesloe, Perth.
Designed by award winning architecture firm Space Agency and installed by Avanti Glass & Aluminium, the project utilises 357 louvres blades to form an eye catching expanse of feature glazing on the upper level. Consisting of a combination of printed, frosted and clear glass louvre blades, the louvres run floor to ceiling allowing superb cross ventilation for summer months.
‘As the site is several blocks from the beach with no view of the ocean – an ‘imagined vista’ is superimposed onto the glass louvre screen that shrouds the upper level; a pixelated pattern of translucent blues and greys suggests light reflecting off the water or gathering clouds in a blue sky.’ – Space Agency Architects
Also supplied for the project was a large 1800 x 3300 fixed panel on the ground floor, featuring an enlarged dot matrix frit design which adds a dynamic graphic element to the pool area.
Completed in 2014, the Kathleen St project won the AIA (WA Chapter) Architecture Award for Alterations and Additions.
