Digitally printed glass: New possibilities for interior design

Using digitally printed glass within residential design has become popular due to a range of compelling benefits glass offers. However, decorative applications within most homes have typically been limited to painted splash backs. This private residence in Perth showcases how printed glass can be used in a range of applications that provide strong aesthetic and functional benefits.

The homeowners of this Perth residence sought to create a visually striking yet highly functional environment, leveraging the advanced capabilities of digitally printed glass to meet their specific design needs. The residence highlights three distinct applications: a striking printed glass splashback in the kitchen, elegant printed stone textures in two bathroom areas, wall cladding in the laundry and a functional yet stylish printed wind and privacy screens for the alfresco area.

Produced using ImagInk digital glass printing, the printed glass installations were thoughtfully designed to complement an interior colour palette led by contemporary whites and neutral tones. This choice of a neutral colour scheme allows the detailed stone textures to create prominent yet artful focal points, ensuring that each element of printed glass works in concert, proving that functionality and sophisticated style can coexist beautifully.

Printed glass eliminates the need for grout lines in wet areas, creating an incredibly low maintenance surface that seamlessly extends from floor to ceiling.

Ceramic inks offer wide ranging benefits for printed textures

Printed glass enables the replication of stone textures with incredible detail and accuracy, without the weight, cost, and maintenance challenges associated with natural stone.

Stone textures were selected from the ImagInk Design Collection, a library of over 200 patterns and textures configured for printing on glass using ceramic inks.

The ceramic ink used in the printing process not only creates a durable surface, it also creates improved design options. Within the showers, the owners opted to install sections of the glass with the printed surface exposed to reduce reflectivity and create matte finish, an outcome that contributes to the incredible realism of the stone textures.

The use of printed glass also eliminates the need for grout lines, creating a virtually maintenance free surface that seamlessly extends from floor to ceiling.

Installing glass with the printed surface exposed reduces reflectivity and creates matte finish, amplifying the incredible realism of the stone textures.

Creating a Hampton Style Laundry Room with Light-Toned Printed Glass Timber Textures

Incorporating printed glass with timber textures in light tones can transform a laundry room into a bright and inviting Hampton style space. This design approach utilises the warmth and natural appeal of wood while delivering the benefits of glass, such as durability and ease of maintenance. The light-toned timber pattern printed on the glass reflect the classic, coastal aesthetic of Hampton style interiors, characterised by light, airy spaces with a touch of elegance.

The choice of printed glass timber textures not only enhances the visual appeal but also elevates the functionality of the laundry room. The seamless installation and sleek finish of the glass make the laundry area look more expansive and open, contributing to an organised and stress-free environment. This clever use of materials and style cues ensures that the laundry room is not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing, fitting perfectly with the overall design theme of the home.

By using glass instead of natural textures, the spaces maintain an incredibly light and open feel. The printed stone and timber textures create an visual aesthetic that almost identically replicates the original materials, albeit with improved maintenance and surface longevity.
