Product information
Insulcool is a fully customisable, high performance double glazing solution designed using soft coat and hard coat Low E glass from the world's leading manufacturers. As a custom solution, Insulcool does not have a standard range of configurations, and is configured on a project basis to meet exact performance outcomes.
With an extensive range of tinted and Low E glass options from a wide range of global flat glass manufacturers, we can often provide multiple Insulcool IGU configurations to match your thermal and aesthetic requirements.
All Insulcool solutions are manufactured with thermally broken warm edge spacers as standard for optimal thermal performance. Compared to aluminium spacers, warm edge spacers have a far lower thermal conductivity resulting in greatly reduced thermal bridging and increased performance of the glass edge.
CUSTOM LAMINATED SOFT COATS
- For projects where safety and performance are paramount, Insulcool is available in a custom laminated soft coat configuration. This technically complex specification involves laminating the soft coat panel to a second panel prior to assembling the IGU. If your project requires a laminated soft coat configuration, please contact us for assistance with specification.
- 2480x4000mm annealed
- 2480x4000mm annealed
- Clear
- Low iron
- Tinted
- Acoustic
- Hard Coat Low-E
- Soft Coat Low-E

FAQs
What is the difference between Hard Coat Low E and Soft Coat Low E?
Hard coats (Pyrolytic coatings) are a single layer vapor deposit applied at high temperatures during the float glass process. Hard coats are ideal for use as a single (monolithic) piece of glass as the coating is highly durable.
Soft coats (sputter coats) are applied in a large magnetron sputter vacuum deposition (MSVD) machine. This allows for a nano-technologically precise coating with multiple layers of metals such as silver, greatly improving performance. Soft coats typically achieve greater solar control, higher visible light transmission (VLT), and lower U Values compared to hard coat Low-E glass. Soft coats can only be used with an IGU as the coating is fragile and easily damaged.
What does single/double/triple silver soft coats refer to?
Single, double, and triple silver refer to the number of silver layers within the soft coat. Single silver soft coats achieve lower performance when compared to triple silver, which has an increased ability to reflect long-wave infrared radiation. This improves solar performance and reduces overall heat loss/gain.
What are the advantages of warm edge spacers?
Unlike conventional aluminium spacers, warm edge spacers are made of composite materials and extruded via CNC directly to the glass during manufacure. This combination of material and manufacturing technology results in a spacer that has lower thermal conductivity, reducing heat loss and maximising thermal performance. For IGUs filled with argon gas, warm edge spacers offer vastly improved impermeability with effectively zero leakage over the lifespan of the unit.
All InsulCool IGUs are manufactured with warm edge spacers as standard.
What is thermal breakage, and are IGUs prone to this?
Thermal breakage refers to glass breakage due to temperature differences. Any glass, including IGUs, can be prone to thermal breakage if exposed to extreme and divergent temperatures. To prevent this, specify IGUs with heat-strengthened glass for applications subject to rapid temperature changes.
Can I specify a custom laminated soft coat Low-E in my IGU?
For projects where safety and performance are paramount, IGUs can be configured with a custom laminated Soft Coat Low-E. Please contact us for details.
Where are InsulCool IGUs manufactured?
InsulCool IGUs are manufactured in Perth and Melbourne and delivered across Australia and New Zealand.
Where do you source Low-E glass for InsulCool IGUs?
The soft coat Low E used in our InsulCool range of IGUs is sourced from a range of leading global manufacturers including Guardian, ACG, Saint Gobain, and others.
Can I use decorative glass within an InsulCool IGU?
Yes, InsulCool can be produced with decorative glass products such as ImagInk, Digiglass, and Vanceva.
How to I select the right Soft Coat Low E IGU for my project?
If you know your preferred U Value, SHGC and VLT values you can use our glass selection tool to identify the most appropriate solutions for your project. You can access the tool here.
