Product release: Ultra Secure Guard - certified security glass for health facilities

Cooling Brothers Glass Company has recently achieved a new industry first, releasing Australia’s first NATA certified security glass – Ultra Secure Guard. Certified at Level 2 with a five-minute attack time, Ultra Secure Guard is specifically designed for high-risk health projects. It is the only security glass in Australia to hold NATA certification.

Ultra Secure Guard is not the first foray into security glass, and complements an existing line of anti-intrusion and security glass products. In the field of health, Cooling Brothers has extensive experience supplying glass to major projects across the country, such as the $1.2 billion New Children’s Hospital, Fiona Stanley, and Campbelltown Hospital in Sydney.

“In the absence of a category-specific AS/NZ standard for health security glass, we have observed a clear market demand for certification,” comments Sales and Marketing Director Vince Bianchini. “Releasing Ultra-Secure Guard as a NATA certified product fulfils this need and provides architects and specifiers in the health and security sectors with a genuine, certified product that mitigates risk. Simply put, Ultra Secure Guard provides a level of compliance unmatched by other products in the category.”

Currently, all glass manufactured in Australia must adhere to the broad-based standard of AS/NZ1288. However, specialised laminated glass products in high-risk categories such as ballistic and cyclonic glass are subject to category-specific AS/NZ standards. Despite being considered a high-risk category, security glazing for health projects does not currently require a category-specific standard, which increases the risk of non-compliance and potential product failure in worst-case scenarios.

To achieve the Level 2, five-minute attack time certification, various scenarios were tested, including human impact and a range of implements commonly found in high risk health environments. These scenarios were developed based on Cooling Brothers’ extensive industry experience across various national health projects.

Utilising a specialised interlayer makeup, Ultra Secure Guard resists penetration and forced entry by allowing the glass to break while retaining the integrity of the interlayer as a barrier.

Manufactured at Cooling Brothers’ production facilities in Perth and Melbourne, Ultra Secure Guard is available nationwide.
